Nightfall

This photographic research is inspired by the works of the artist Magritte. 
In particular, the work entitled “The empire of lights”, which brings together two fundamental elements of life – day and night – on a paradoxical canvas. This work, as well as others by the same author, look like cinematographic images, which lead the viewer into the timeless world of Magritte’s work.
I made these images, at dusk, in a small village on the outskirts of Rome, waiting for the light to fade slightly, using a digital camera, but without post-production interventions.
With this project I imagined how the painters were attentive to the mutation of lights and how they had to keep them in mind in order to reproduce them, unlike me, which with the camera I am lucky enough to be able to capture the moment.

Questa ricerca fotografica prende ispirazione dalle opere dell’artista Magritte. In particolare all’opera intitolata “L’impero delle luci”, che riunisce due elementi fondamentali della vita – il giorno e la notte – su una tela paradossale. Quest’opera, come anche altre dello stesso autore, sembrano immagini cinematografiche, che conducono lo spettatore nel mondo senza tempo dell’opera di Magritte.
Ho realizzato queste immagini, al crepuscolo, in un piccolo borgo alle porte di Roma, attendendo che la luce sfiorisse lievemente, utilizzando una macchina digitale, ma senza interventi di post produzione.
Con questo progetto ho immaginato come i pittori fossero attenti alla mutazione delle luci e a come dovessero tenerle a mente per poterle riprodurre, a differenza mia, che con la fotocamera ho la fortuna di poter cogliere l’attimo.
